Tenstorrent Raises $1.5 Billion and Lists 127 Open Positions
Tenstorrent announced on October 19 that it has raised $1.5 billion in Series E funding at a $6.2 billion valuation. Trace Capital and Innovation X led the round, with investors including ARK Invest, Cadence Ventures, Fidelity, Morgan Stanley, Sandisk, T. Rowe Price and Tether Investments.
The financing is more than twice its $693 million Series D round from December 2024. Tenstorrent says the money will support volume manufacturing, international expansion and deployment of its Galaxy AI servers. Read the funding announcement coverage.
What Tenstorrent builds
Tenstorrent develops AI processors, RISC-V CPUs, accelerator cards, workstations and servers. It also licenses its CPU and AI technology to companies building their own chips, including Samsung and LG.
Its software is open source allowing customers to inspect and modify the code running on its hardware.
The founders
Tenstorrent was founded in Toronto in 2016 by Ljubisa Bajic, Ivan Hamer and Milos Trajkovic.
The team initially worked from a basement, building an FPGA prototype of its architecture. Jim Keller, who knew Bajic from AMD, was the company’s first investor. The prototype helped the founders raise institutional funding.
Bajic served as the original CEO before stepping away from a full time role in 2023. Trajkovic remains a Senior Fellow, leading systems engineering and foundational software. Hamer also came from an engineering background at AMD.
Keller joined as President and Chief Technology Officer in 2021 and became CEO in 2023. His previous work includes processor development at DEC, AMD, Apple and Tesla.
