onsemi’s AI Growth and 703 Open Jobs
onsemi reported third quarter revenue of $1.72 billion on November 2, up 11% from a year earlier.
AI data center revenue reached $180 million, up 175% from last year and 39% from the previous quarter. Automotive revenue was $777 million, down 1%.
That puts the numbers in perspective. AI is onsemi’s fastest growing market, but automotive still produces more than four times as much revenue.
onsemi is building around AI power delivery
Alongside its results, onsemi agreed to acquire Ferric for $600 million in cash, plus up to $175 million if certain revenue targets are reached.
Ferric develops integrated voltage regulators used to deliver power to processors. This is where onsemi is placing its AI bet. It is not building competing AI processors. It wants to supply the power technology needed to run them.
The acquisition raised onsemi’s 2030 AI data center revenue target by $500 million to more than $3 billion.
onsemi is also pursuing its $5.7 billion acquisition of Synaptics, which is expected to close by the middle of 2027.
What the 703 open positions show
Our job index currently tracks 703 active onsemi job postings worldwide, including 257 in the United States and 446 in other countries.
The largest concentrations are tied to manufacturing, assembly, test and semiconductor equipment:
| Location | Active postings | Main areas of work |
|---|---|---|
| East Fishkill, New York | 112 | 300mm fab operations, equipment and process engineering |
| Philippines | 118 | Assembly, test and sustaining operations |
| India | 90 | IC design, verification and engineering software |
| Malaysia | 82 | Power semiconductor packaging and reliability |
| Scottsdale, Arizona | 44 | Corporate functions, power products and acquisitions |
| China | 35 | Systems engineering, applications and sales |
| Czech Republic | 23 | SiC manufacturing and digital design |
The current hiring does not show a companywide AI hiring surge. Most positions are supporting fabs, production, assembly and test.
That matters because the AI opportunity depends on onsemi being able to manufacture power products in volume. The company still needs equipment engineers, process engineers, test specialists and technicians to turn its AI plans into shipped products.
Hiring is active, but below its earlier peak
onsemi added 208 new postings in October, while 249 postings were removed. It currently has 703 active postings, down from approximately 850 earlier in the year.
A removed posting does not necessarily mean someone was hired. Positions can also disappear because they expire, are cancelled or are reopened under a different requisition number.
The current numbers point to selective hiring rather than a broad expansion across the company.
Four positions that show where onsemi is investing
Several current positions connect directly to the company’s stated plans:
- Director, HR – Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestitures (M&A&D): Posted in Scottsdale on October 28. The position covers due diligence, company integration and employee transfers. It could support the Synaptics transaction, Ferric or other acquisition work.
- Senior Director, AI NPD Platforms & Engineering Intelligence: A San Jose position paying $216,775 to $390,195. The role is responsible for using agentic AI across analog, mixed signal, power, layout and packaging development.
- VP - Test, Technology and Operations: Based in Allen, Texas, with responsibility across the US, India, the Czech Republic and the Philippines. The work includes DFT, automated test equipment, factory transfers and manufacturing costs.
- Director of Foundry Sourcing: A San Jose and Scottsdale position responsible for onsemi’s relationships with outside wafer manufacturers.
These positions cover three separate priorities: integrating acquisitions, using AI inside the design process and reducing the cost of manufacturing and testing chips.
What the numbers mean
onsemi’s AI data center business is growing rapidly, but it is still much smaller than automotive. Its hiring reflects that reality.
The company is adding senior people in AI, acquisitions and foundry management while continuing to hire heavily in fabs, assembly and test. Ferric gives onsemi another way to sell into AI data centers, but producing those power products at scale will depend on the manufacturing workforce already visible across New York, Malaysia, the Philippines and the Czech Republic.
The next useful signal will be whether new positions begin appearing specifically for Ferric integration, integrated voltage regulators and AI processor power delivery.
