Western Digital and Sandisk: Where the Storage Jobs Are
Western Digital reported $4.38 billion in revenue on October 22, up 55% from a year earlier and 17% from the previous quarter.
Our job index tracks 349 active Western Digital postings as of October 30. Western Digital and Sandisk separated in February 2025. Western Digital makes hard drives, and Sandisk makes flash storage products.
Sandisk moved its applicant tracking system in late September. Our index now tracks 501 active Sandisk postings from that site as of October 30. Western Digital figures come first, followed by a separate Sandisk section.
Western Digital: what changed in October
Western Digital published 194 postings from October 1 through October 30, compared with 168 during September. The largest engineering groups among October's postings were semiconductor equipment engineering (35) and manufacturing engineering (28). By location, San Jose, California, and Bayan Lepas, Malaysia, each had 38.
Of the 349 positions currently open, 204 were posted in September or October, or 58.5%.

In Malaysia, Bayan Lepas, Penang, has 84 postings, followed by Kuching with 17 and Petaling Jaya with 15. In the US, San Jose has 58, followed by Irvine with 12, Fremont with 8 and Rochester with 8.
The Bayan Lepas openings are mostly equipment maintenance, process and lab technician roles, plus manufacturing, equipment and sputter process engineers. The San Jose openings include firmware, test engineering and storage systems roles, along with sales, finance and other business positions.

Excluding business roles, the three largest engineering disciplines are Semiconductor Equipment Engineering (75 postings), Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (61 postings) and Process Engineering (24 postings).
Ninety postings mention at least one of the following: hard drive engineering, magnetic recording, servo or slider work.

Sandisk’s current careers site shows 257 open positions dated in October and 116 dated in September. Because Sandisk changed applicant tracking systems in late September, these figures should not be treated as a direct measure of increased hiring.

Sandisk: what they are hiring for
Excluding business roles (149 postings), the three largest engineering disciplines are Semiconductor Equipment Engineering (39), Process Engineering (26) and Embedded Firmware Engineering (23), followed by Packaging Engineering (21) and Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (20).
At Sandisk, 106 postings mention NAND, while 52 mention SSD or NVMe. Some postings appear in both groups.
