About the role
As a System Integration Engineer on the IPC Fusion program, you will integrate, test, and support complex optical and electro-mechanical systems from prototype build through manufacturing ramp and customer qualification. The role focuses on an optical inspection system for the advanced semiconductor packaging market.
What you'll do
- Execute hands-on assembly, integration, and functional testing of complex optical and electro-mechanical subsystems.
- Own and refine system test procedures, calibration routines, and diagnostic protocols while maintaining accurate build documentation.
- Perform system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis independently, communicating technical findings to engineering teams.
- Support design verification and validation activities while delivering practical feedback on design-for-build and design-for-test.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system reliability, build efficiency, and test coverage.
- Participate in on-site customer support, installation, and qualification activities requiring domestic and international travel.
What you'll need
- Associate's degree or BS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent technical training combined with extensive hands-on experience).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with complex electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve system-level hardware issues independently and methodically.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, assembly schematics, and test procedures.
- Hands-on familiarity with test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrometers, and alignment tools.
- Experience working in or around cleanroom environments, including knowledge of ESD and contamination control practices.
Nice to have
- Experience with optical instrumentation, laser-based systems, or precision imaging equipment.
- Background in calibration procedures, system metrology, or optical alignment.
- Familiarity with semiconductor equipment environments, manufacturing ramp, installation, or field service activities.
- Experience with data collection and analysis using Python or MATLAB.
- Knowledge of SECS/GEM automation or fab integration concepts.
- Bilingual skills in Mandarin or Korean.

How we counted: 1096 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 110 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 4 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
