About the role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at nEye, you will design and develop mechanical systems and precision assemblies for an optical switching platform. The scope includes packaging, mounting structures, fiber management, and thermal management supporting MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches.
What you'll do
- Design precision mechanical components, assemblies, modules, enclosures, mounting structures, and fiber management solutions supporting silicon photonic devices.
- Develop thermal management solutions and deliver manufacturable CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and assembly documentation from concept through production.
- Perform structural, thermal, and vibration simulations using FEA tools to evaluate stress, strain, and reliability.
- Build, assemble, and evaluate engineering prototypes, performing root cause analysis on prototype and field failures.
- Collaborate with vendors on precision machined, molded, and sheet metal fabricated parts, reviewing first articles and supporting engineering change orders (ECOs).
What you'll need
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with 5+ years of mechanical design experience developing complex hardware products.
- Deep proficiency designing precision opto-mechanical assemblies.
- Expert proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or Inventor.
- Experience performing structural and thermal analysis using FEA tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including precision machining, sheet metal, molding (injection, vacuum forming, MIM), extrusions, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience designing to Telcordia or similar environmental qualification standards.
Nice to have
- Product development experience in silicon photonics, optical networking, semiconductor equipment, MEMS, optical packaging, telecom hardware, high-performance computing, or AI infrastructure.
- Familiarity with thermal management of electronics and fiber routing and management.
- Experience designing for shock and vibration requirements.
- Knowledge of adhesives, optical alignment fixtures, or precision mechanical mounting.
- Experience supporting design transfer into manufacturing.
- Exposure to rapid simulation workflows or AI-assisted engineering tools.
