Integrated Voltage Regulators (IVRs) enabling Vertical Power Delivery (VPD) and Embedded Power Delivery (EPD) for AI accelerators and CPUs.
About the role
This role owns the system-level performance of integrated voltage regulators (IVRs) from the lab bench through customer board evaluation within the IVR Business Unit. The products combine power transistors, digital control, inductors, and capacitors to enable Vertical Power Delivery (VPD) and Embedded Power Delivery (EPD) for AI accelerators, GPUs, CPUs, and custom ASICs.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute system-level test plans for single- and multi-IVR power delivery under customer-representative conditions, including load transients, current sharing, power-delivery-network impedance, sequencing, protection, and fault response.
- Build processor load-emulation platforms, dynamic load boards, and scalable multi-IVR demonstration platforms for high-current processor applications.
- Perform board- and package-level PDN and power-integrity analysis, including DC drop, AC impedance, parasitic, decoupling, and transient droop.
- Build circuit- and system-level IVR models, evaluate control-loop stability, and correlate simulation results with lab measurements.
- Define, design, bring up, and validate evaluation boards and reference designs, producing complete design packages including schematics, layout guidelines, BOMs, and test procedures.
- Lead customer evaluations and design-ins with xPU vendors, hyperscalers, and ODMs by reviewing architectures, schematics, layouts, and package/board stack-ups.
What you'll need
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) with at least 5 years of experience in power-electronics design, systems engineering, or semiconductor applications engineering.
- Demonstrated experience with synchronous or multiphase buck regulators, high-current point-of-load systems, control-loop stability, transient performance, and efficiency optimization.
- Hands-on proficiency with power-electronics laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, current probes, electronic loads, power analyzers, and network analyzers for low-voltage, high-current systems.
- Circuit simulation experience using SIMPLIS, SIMetrix, LTspice, PLECS, or equivalent, including correlating simulations with lab measurements.
- Experience defining schematics, reviewing PCB layouts, and bringing up and debugging power hardware.
- Proficiency in Python-based lab automation and data analysis, with working knowledge of version control such as Git.
Nice to have
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power electronics, power management, or power integrity.
- Experience with integrated voltage regulators, Vertical Power Delivery (VPD), Embedded Power Delivery (EPD), or advanced point-of-load architectures for AI accelerators, GPUs, CPUs, or ASICs.
- Customer-facing semiconductor applications or design-in experience with hyperscalers, xPU vendors, or ODMs.
- Experience with PDN and power-integrity tools such as Ansys Q3D, SIwave, Cadence Sigrity, or Keysight ADS, and thermal tools such as Ansys Icepak, COMSOL, Simcenter Flotherm, or Cadence Celsius.
- Experience with digitally controlled multiphase regulators, current sharing, and interfaces such as PMBus, I2C, I3C, AVSBus, or processor VID protocols.
- Knowledge of advanced packaging, package-level power distribution, embedded components, substrate co-design, OCP rack power architectures, or GaN and SiC power stages.
