About the role
Altera is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior AWS Cloud Engineer / Architect to lead the design, implementation, optimization, and operation of AWS cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise applications, business operations, and semiconductor engineering workloads. This role focuses on supporting high-performance computing (HPC) workloads and high-throughput, scalable storage.
What you'll do
- Architect, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure across accounts and environments using services including EC2, VPC, S3, EBS, EFS, RDS, ELB, Auto Scaling, and Route 53.
- Develop and maintain Terraform configurations, reusable modules, CI/CD pipelines, and automation scripts using Python, Bash, AWS CLI, and APIs.
- Manage AWS operations, monitoring, root-cause analysis, disaster recovery, and proactive observability using CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
- Implement least-privilege architectures, IAM, encryption, and security controls utilizing AWS KMS, Security Hub, GuardDuty, and AWS Config.
- Architect and operate HPC environments, including workload schedulers, batch processing, and cluster capacity planning.
- Design and optimize high-throughput shared storage systems for engineering workloads, including Amazon FSx for Lustre, EFS, S3, and parallel file systems.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, systems, cloud engineering, or related technical roles.
- 5+ years of hands-on AWS infrastructure engineering and production operations.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting HPC clusters or batch-compute environments in AWS or hybrid infrastructure.
- Strong experience implementing and optimizing high-performance shared storage (including FSx for Lustre, EFS, NFS, or parallel file systems), covering throughput, latency, and capacity planning.
- Proficiency in Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, Linux administration, and scripting with Python or Bash.
- Strong knowledge of AWS networking, compute, storage, identity, security, TCP/IP, DNS, routing, VPN, and firewalls.
Nice to have
- AWS Solutions Architect – Professional or DevOps Engineer – Professional certification, or equivalent expertise.
- Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, landing zones, and multi-account governance.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Docker, and containers.
- Experience with Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and hybrid cloud networking.
- Experience with AWS ParallelCluster, Slurm, or similar HPC schedulers and workload orchestration platforms.
- Background supporting semiconductor, EDA, chip design, or high-performance engineering infrastructure.
- Experience with CNAPP, cloud security posture management, observability, AIOps, and FinOps.
