Senior Engineer, SoC HAL

About the role

As a Senior Engineer on the SoC HAL team, you will own the architecture and implementation of the Hardware Abstraction Layer that boots, configures, and debugs custom silicon. The team develops the low-level software driver stack for AWS Trainium and Inferentia machine learning accelerators.

What you'll do

• Own the design and end-to-end implementation of the HAL and driver software architecture for new chips, including abstractions, interfaces, and design patterns.
• Apply hardware/software co-design principles by partnering with RTL designers and design verification engineers to influence silicon manageability and debuggability prior to tape-out.
• Deliver and maintain HAL blocks across the stack, covering PCIe, DDR/HBM memory, DMA, system fabric, interrupt controllers, and boot/firmware.
• Establish testing and continuous deployment standards for the software stack, including pre-silicon and hardware-in-the-loop flows.
• Drive technical tradeoffs across hardware, firmware, and higher-layer system software, while conducting code reviews and mentoring team members.

What you'll need

• Experience designing and implementing low-level driver or HAL software architectures in C++.
• Direct experience with hardware interfaces and blocks such as PCIe, DDR or HBM memory, DMA, system fabric, or interrupt controllers.
• Experience applying hardware/software co-design and collaborating with RTL and design verification engineers.
• Background developing and deploying software using pre-silicon environments and hardware-in-the-loop flows.
• Track record of driving technical decisions spanning hardware, firmware, and system software.
