About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cloud Native Storage (CNS) team, you will design, implement, and deliver features for distributed storage control planes across thousands of enterprise environments. The role spans the stack from the Kubernetes storage control plane down to the vSAN data plane layers to optimize storage for containerized workloads.
What you'll do
- Lead the design and hands-on implementation of distributed systems, primarily utilizing Go and/or C++. - Architect and implement Kubernetes storage control-plane workflows for creation, upgrade, movement, and scaling across clusters. - Build storage control-plane resiliency to handle failure scenarios including upgrades, split-brain conditions, networking outages, and version skew. - Take ownership of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) within designated technical areas and utilize AI tools for specification-driven development. - Troubleshoot and debug production and non-production issues across storage control planes and data plane layers. - Develop automated tests to validate the correctness, upgrade processes, and resilience of distributed systems.
What you'll need
- Minimum of 5 years of experience building scalable distributed systems applications. - Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering. - Experience dealing with complex issues of scale, performance, and concurrency, backed by strong foundational knowledge in data structures and algorithms. - Experience with infrastructure orchestration across compute, networking, and storage. - Knowledge of Linux internals (cgroups, namespaces) and container runtimes (such as containerd). - Knowledge of Container Storage Interface (CSI) and managing Persistent Volumes (PVs) and PVCs. - Strong systems design fundamentals focused on consistency, availability, and failure handling.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience building or operating Kubernetes-based systems. - Deep understanding of Kubernetes control plane architecture, including API server, Persistent Volumes, etcd, and controller-manager. - Experience extending the Kubernetes API, including designing declarative APIs and implementing reconciliation loops.
