$150,000 - $220,000 USD yearly
Research rendering algorithms and hardware-based ray tracing models for graphics architecture.
About the role
The Graphics R&D Engineer researches rendering algorithms, evaluates competitive approaches, and translates research concepts into computationally efficient models. The role focuses on hardware-based ray tracing, performance modeling, and defining system requirements in collaboration with hardware architects.
What you'll do
- Perform in-depth research and analysis on preexisting rendering algorithms.
- Translate rendering concepts into discrete, computationally friendly models.
- Conduct competitive analysis across tools, algorithms, and performance benchmarks, reporting findings to leadership.
- Collaborate with the Hardware Architect to define PoC features and systems requirements.
- Provide performance estimations and benchmarking data throughout the project lifecycle.
What you'll need
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a strong focus on algorithms and scientific computing.
- Proficiency in advanced calculus, discrete mathematics, and modeling of physical phenomena.
- Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
- Demonstrated experience in computer graphics, rendering algorithms, and hardware-based ray tracing.
- Ability to articulate research findings to both technical and non-technical leadership.

How we counted: 485 open SoC/Chip Architecture (SOC Architecture) roles from 67 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 8 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Digital Design & Verification family row.
