About the role
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer with the Skyworks SSPA hardware engineering team, you will focus on the mechanical design and development of high-power microwave and millimeter-wave amplifiers, subsystems, and fully integrated LRUs.
What you'll do
- Design electronics and RF systems, including ruggedized enclosures, RF subassemblies, PCBAs, harnesses, and cables.
- Develop thermal management solutions for high-power electronics, including liquid cold plates and air-cooling configurations such as fans, blowers, and ram-air.
- Select and specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes to satisfy SWaP-C, environmental, and schedule requirements.
- Execute thermal analysis spanning system-level modeling to die/channel temperatures, as well as structural FEA for shock, vibration, and acceleration.
- Establish verification testing and perform risk-mitigation analyses across hardware programs.
- Collaborate with SSPA engineering disciplines, program leadership, production, and quality teams.
What you'll need
- Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design of ruggedized electronics.
- Demonstrated expertise in FEA-based thermal and structural analysis of electronics and electronics enclosures.
- Strong background in technical data package development, including BOM creation, 2D drawings, and 3D modeling.
- Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience designing electronics packaging for microwave and millimeter-wave circuits, modules, and antennas.
- Experience with military and aerospace specifications, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160.
- Experience with Solidworks, Flotherm CFD, and Ansys Structures FEA.
