Integrate Infineon smart actuators and sensors into customer platforms using embedded Linux, ROS2, and edge AI compute stacks.
About the role
As a Principal Engineer Firmware in the Research & Development team, you will provide integration, bring-up, and performance tuning for customer and partner platforms. The role focuses on integrating Infineon smart actuators and sensors, edge AI compute stacks, and connectivity interfaces.
What you'll do
- Provide on-site and remote support for integration and bring-up at customer and partner locations, performing hands-on debug, measurement, and structured issue reproduction. - Tune end-to-end performance against targets such as latency, throughput, jitter, and deterministic behavior. - Work with sensor, actuator, and bridge connectivity patterns, including Ethernet and industrial interfaces, to close gaps between datasheets, reference designs, and customer systems. - Study hardware and software protocol documentation to produce implementation proposals, risk notes, and migration paths. - Integrate smart actuators and sensors into customer reference platforms and partner with edge AI compute teams to align data paths, drivers, and APIs. - Develop or adapt Python and C++ utilities for bring-up, data capture, regression checks, and customer demonstrations.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a comparable field with a strong software focus. - 5 to 8 years of professional experience in software, robotics, simulation, embedded systems, applications engineering, or system integration (or 3 years with a Master’s, or about 2 years with a PhD). - Solid Python and C++ development skills for bring-up tools, integration code, or performance-sensitive components. - Hands-on experience with embedded Linux or comparable edge environments, drivers, protocols, and basic hardware debug using scopes or logic analyzers. - Familiarity with real-time and performance-aware design, including latency, timing, bandwidth, and system-level trade-offs. - Understanding of sensors and actuators in motion and robotics contexts, along with familiarity with motor control and power concepts at the system level. - Exposure to robotics middleware such as ROS2 or industrial field buses.
Nice to have
- Hands-on use of SysML, MBSE repositories, or architecture modeling tools in hardware–software or systems programs. - Familiarity with robotics simulation tools such as Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, or Omniverse alongside hardware bring-up. - Background in functional safety, EMC, or thermal constraints affecting edge deployments. - Prior semiconductor or tier-one automotive/industrial applications exposure.

How we counted: 764 open Embedded Firmware Engineering (Systems Software) roles from 84 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 25 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
