MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches
About the role
As a MEMS Process Engineer at nEye, you will define and improve silicon photonics MEMS fabrication technologies for optical circuit switches. The role involves wafer fabrication work in Emeryville and the Marvell Nanofabrication Laboratory at UC Berkeley, as well as collaboration with external foundries.
What you'll do
- Translate chip design and system-level requirements into device designs and wafer fabrication methodologies.
- Run wafers through the lab, conduct critical analysis on process steps, and design and implement process short loops.
- Partner with external vendors, technology providers, and foundries to establish and refine fabrication processes.
- Collaborate with wafer fab team members to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication-related issues.
What you'll need
- Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with microfabrication methods and techniques.
- Experience with Si photonics or MEMS technologies.
- Experience with failure analysis, metrology, and process development.
- Experience with mask design, thin film deposition and characterization, and wet/dry etching.
- Experience developing and scaling processes from inception to prototyping and production.
Nice to have
- Experience designing and executing detailed experimental protocols.
- Proficiency with layout tools such as KLayout.
- Exposure to simulation platforms such as COMSOL, Ansys, Lumerical, or Coventor.
Skills: microfabrication, thin film deposition, wet/dry etching, MEMS, wafer processing

How we counted: 1030 open Process Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 55 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 3 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
