About the role
This role is responsible for designing electron optics systems and submodules for e-beam inspection and metrology tools, covering development from initial concept to release for high-volume manufacturing. You will execute engineering simulations, lead verification and validation experiments, and support the transfer of electron optic modules into mass production.
What you'll do
- Design electron optics modules and sub-systems of e-beam inspection tools from concept through final release for high-volume manufacturing.
- Author system-level and module-level design documentation covering specifications, design principles, details, and interfaces following ASML design processes.
- Perform engineering simulations and calculations for electron optics modules, including thermal, vacuum, high voltage, dynamics, and mechanical FEM analysis.
- Lead design reviews, error budget development, risk assessments, and execution of verification and validation experiments.
- Collaborate with vendors and consultants to develop, analyze, and fabricate components and sub-assemblies while resolving manufacturing issues.
- Support integration and testing for electron optic systems, troubleshoot hardware, and execute technical documentation for mass production transfer.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience, or a Master's degree or PhD with fewer years of experience, in Physics, Optics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong foundational understanding of physics and mechanics, with demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting capabilities.
- Knowledge of materials, material selection, and manufacturing and cleaning processes used for electron beam inspection components.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis and design experiments for issues related to eSource and electron optic hardware.
Nice to have
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and 2D detailed drawings using SolidWorks and NX.
- Experience designing parts and assemblies for ultra-high vacuum environments.
- Experience designing parts and assemblies for high-voltage environments.
- Ability to perform structural and thermal FEA using NX or Comsol.
- Experience designing, fabricating, and testing mechanical or electro-mechanical modules and related system interfaces for capital equipment tools.
- 2+ years of relevant experience on semiconductor equipment mechanical products.
- Experience with product lifecycle management tools such as Siemens TCE.

How we counted: 1125 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 110 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 7 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
