About the role
As a research intern in Keysight's Advanced Technology Laboratories, you will work on photonic integrated circuit (PIC) characterization and analysis using automated laboratory instrumentation. The work focuses on evaluating PICs across diverse functionalities and may include simulation and modeling to improve integrated components.
What you'll do
- Perform photonic integrated circuit (PIC) characterization and analysis in the laboratory. - Improve and further automate existing PIC characterization tools and analysis methodologies. - Investigate PICs featuring diverse functionalities for atypical applications. - Conduct simulation and design to evaluate and improve integrated optical components and circuits. - Collaborate with research team members on-site in Santa Clara, California.
What you'll need
- Completed B.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline and current enrollment as a graduate student majoring in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering. - Familiarity with PIC integrated waveguide types, fiber-to-chip coupling techniques, passive components (directional couplers, polarization splitters, rings, MMIs), and active components (photodetectors, modulators, heaters, lasers). - Hands-on experience with both optical and electrical test and measurement instrumentation. - Python programming skills and experience with engineering packages such as NumPy and Matplotlib. - Experience in PIC component simulation, modeling, and design.
