About the role
As an EDA AI/ML Software Intern, you will contribute to the development of design automation technologies used in semiconductor design environments. The work focuses on applying AI across schematic generation, layout automation, device modeling, and design optimization workflows for RFIC and analog design.
What you'll do
- Assist in prototyping and implementing AI/ML models for design automation workflows. - Develop, test, and refine software components in Python, with potential exposure to C++ or Rust under mentorship. - Support the integration of machine learning algorithms into Windows desktop applications. - Contribute to data preprocessing, model training, and evaluation pipelines. - Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance testing with software engineers and RFIC domain experts.
What you'll need
- Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - Strong programming skills in Python alongside knowledge of core data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. - Familiarity with at least one ML/DL framework such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn. - Exposure to at least one UI framework or visualization library (e.g., PySide6, Qt, matplotlib, or React). - Familiarity with or interest in surrogate modeling, optimization, design space exploration, or Bayesian optimization techniques. - Familiarity with or interest in parameterized cells (PCells), computational geometry, schematic generation, or layout automation.
Nice to have
- Exposure to generative AI, reinforcement learning, or agentic AI systems. - Coursework or projects involving RF, circuits, or EDA concepts. - Experience with C++ or Rust through coursework or projects. - Exposure to software development on Windows or Linux platforms and familiarity with Git. - Interest in multithreaded applications and desktop software development.

How we counted: 72 open EDA/CAD Engineering (AI EDA Design) roles from 25 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 27 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Physical Implementation family row.
