About the role

As a Compiler Toolchain Engineer at Qualcomm, you will work on compiler technologies designed to deliver capabilities with high energy efficiency. The role focuses on compiler toolchain software supporting application domains such as gaming, image processing, virtual and augmented reality, machine learning, and modems.

What you'll do

  • Design and write compiler toolchain components (e.g., LLVM, GCC, MLIR, Halide, TVM) to ensure efficient compilation of code onto target hardware architectures.
  • Apply Intermediate Representation (IR) techniques and program analysis to expose and implement program optimization opportunities.
  • Incorporate complex features into programming tools to assist developers in implementing, debugging, and optimizing code running on programmable cores such as DSP, CPU, NSP, and microcontrollers.
  • Design and develop industry standard tools including debuggers, linkers, profilers, converters, and optimizers.
  • Build bit-exact functional or timing-accurate simulators to enable off-target execution of software.
  • Synthesize and run application benchmarks, analyzing data to guide performance, power optimizations, and constraint management.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of software/systems engineering experience (or Master's with 3+ years, or PhD with 2+ years).
  • 2+ years of academic or work experience with compilers or developer tools.
  • Experience with processor architecture concepts across programmable cores such as DSP, CPU, NSP, or microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of systems concepts including scheduling, memory management, QoS, parallel execution, memory models, and debugging techniques.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Skills: compiler, LLVM, GCC, MLIR, toolchain, instruction set architecture
