Develop AUTOSAR-compliant MCAL components for MIPS RISC-V automotive real-time MCUs.
About the role
This role develops AUTOSAR-compliant MCAL components for MIPS RISC-V automotive real-time MCUs across driver development, hardware bring-up, safety-compliant engineering, integration, and validation. The work supports applications including ADAS, powertrain, body electronics, and domain controllers.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain AUTOSAR MCAL drivers for peripherals such as ADC, PWM, GPT, ICU, DIO, PORT, CAN, LIN, SPI, UART, WDG, MCU, FLS, and Ethernet.
- Own assigned MCAL modules across requirements analysis, design, coding, configuration, unit testing, integration, and validation.
- Implement software in compliance with MISRA C and AUTOSAR coding guidelines, and resolve findings from static-analysis tools.
- Bring up and debug MCAL drivers on FPGA and silicon using Lauterbach, iSystem, or similar embedded debug tools.
- Collaborate with SoC architecture, hardware, platform software, functional safety, validation, and tools teams on clocks, resets, interrupts, DMA, memory maps, and peripheral integration.
- Integrate MCAL components with AUTOSAR BSW stacks and configuration environments, and develop automated unit, integration, and regression tests.
What you'll need
- 4-6 years of embedded software development experience, including hands-on AUTOSAR MCAL or low-level driver development.
- Strong embedded C programming skills with practical knowledge of pointers, memory-mapped I/O, interrupts, concurrency, and linker or startup concepts.
- Experience developing or integrating MCAL modules and working with AUTOSAR specifications and configuration workflows.
- Understanding of MCU subsystems including clocks, resets, interrupt controllers, DMA, timers, watchdogs, communication peripherals, and memory interfaces.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 software development practices and safety-oriented engineering deliverables.
- Experience with hardware bring-up and debugging using Lauterbach, iSystem, J-Link, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or similar equipment.

How we counted: 66 open Embedded Firmware Engineering (Automotive IC) roles from 16 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 29 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
