About the role

Power Integrations is seeking a Staff Applications Engineer (Datacenter) to define and develop high-density power solutions for AI and data center applications. You will develop high-density power converters, intermediate bus converter (IBC) modules, and protection circuits using GaN and silicon technologies.

What you'll do

  • Develop high-frequency power converter solutions for AI and data center applications across AC/DC and DC/DC architectures using Power Integrations products.
  • Define power converter architectures and key system components for emerging AI and data center power solutions.
  • Provide switching power supply design support and technical guidance for customer applications worldwide.
  • Develop reference designs and application solutions demonstrating performance, efficiency, and system value for AI and data center power architectures.
  • Collaborate with product development teams and customers to evaluate design tradeoffs and optimize system performance, density, and reliability.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or foreign equivalent.
  • Minimum 8-12 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience and expertise in high-density, high-frequency power converter design, including server power applications above 3 kW.
  • Experience designing high power and high current planar transformers, along with expert knowledge of high-frequency magnetics design.
  • Strong familiarity with power supply topologies including Totem pole PFC, Vienna Rectifier, Phase-shifted and LLC resonant converters, and buck, boost, buck-boost, and flyback converters.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Excel, and simulation software including SIMPLIS, LTspice, or PLECS, paired with hands-on lab equipment testing for high-frequency switching power supplies.
  • Ability to perform complex calculations, including worst-case analysis, and author specifications, technical reports, and test plans.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing firmware in C/C++ for embedded controllers in power supply applications and providing firmware guidance.
  • Experience using finite element tools such as ANSYS.
  • Experience designing power supplies/power converters from concept to production and supporting post production.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C and PMBus.
  • Familiarity with tools for debug of power converters with embedded controllers.
