About the role
As a Sr. Rack and Chassis Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead mechanical design and system architecture across server and GPU products, spanning early-stage concept development through post-silicon validation and commercialization. The scope covers server design, high-density infrastructure, rack-level integration, and advanced cooling solutions.
What you'll do
- Define, design, and integrate mechanical systems for server and compute products spanning rack-level integration, cooling solutions, and laser and optics. - Perform mechanical modeling in Creo, tolerance analysis, and system-level mechanical design for high-volume production. - Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles across fabrication processes, tooling design, and assembly workflows. - Lead mechanical design reviews, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and provide technical direction to engineering teams. - Support post-silicon development through test planning, hardware characterization, data analysis, and validation of customer and reference systems. - Collaborate across mechanical, thermal, and structural teams to deliver manufacturable solutions meeting product performance and reliability requirements.
What you'll need
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. - Extensive background in electromechanical product design, integration, and validation for high-performance computing hardware at the rack and server systems level. - Advanced proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, including complex modeling and assembly management. - Hands-on experience with mechanical materials and high-volume manufacturing processes including sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, and extrusion. - Demonstrated experience conducting statistical analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). - Practical experience with silicon integration into system-level server products, post-silicon characterization, and thermal management systems.
Nice to have
- Experience with optical interconnects, optics, and lasers in rack or server packaging. - Senior-level engineering background specifically in server and switch development. - Prior experience managing multi-program hardware development cycles with external suppliers and fabrication vendors.

How we counted: 966 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 102 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 19 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
