About the role
The Sr. Principal Photonic Process Integration Engineer serves as the primary technical liaison between Coherent and external silicon photonics, silicon CMOS, and advanced packaging foundry partners. This role drives process integration across the Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) product lifecycle, spanning process development, process control, technology qualification, and yield improvement.
What you'll do
- Coordinate foundry engagements related to process development, process control, manufacturing readiness, and technology qualification across external silicon photonics, silicon CMOS, and packaging partners. - Plan and execute technical and quality audits of external foundry partners to evaluate Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation, excursion management, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) systems. - Lead root-cause investigations, failure analysis (FA), and CAPA execution in collaboration with foundries, reliability teams, and product engineering. - Track and resolve wafer-level, die-level, and module-level yield detractors through systematic data analysis and execute Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) initiatives. - Collaborate with PIC design teams to identify process sensitivities and implement Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM), Design-for-Yield (DFY), and process robustness improvements. - Review engineering change notices (ECNs), process change notifications (PCNs), and technology updates to assess impacts on product performance, yield, and qualification status.
What you'll need
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field. - 10+ years of experience working with semiconductor foundries and photonics process development. - Demonstrated experience in qualification of photonic foundry processes and PIC products, along with advanced packaging experience. - Strong technical background in silicon photonics process integration and device manufacturing. - Hands-on experience with yield analysis, SPC, and JMP statistical data analysis. - Experience in failure analysis (FA), root-cause investigation, and CAPA implementation, alongside Python programming for data analysis and automation.

How we counted: 250 open Process Integration (Process Integration) roles from 40 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 22 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
