Software Development Engineer, SoC HAL

Build the C++ Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and driver stack powering Trainium and Inferentia silicon.

About the role

As a Software Engineer on the SoC HAL team at Annapurna Labs, you will build and test the Hardware Abstraction Layer and driver stack that boots, configures, and debugs custom silicon for AWS machine learning servers. The role focuses on software interfaces for hardware blocks across Trainium and Inferentia machine learning accelerators.

What you'll do

• Implement, test, and maintain HAL and driver features for hardware blocks such as PCIe, DDR / HBM memory, DMA, system fabric, interrupt controllers, and boot / firmware.
• Write clean, well-tested C++ and participate in team test, code-review, and continuous-deployment practices.
• Debug failures across software and silicon while learning how the HAL interacts with underlying hardware.
• Partner with RTL and design verification engineers to understand the hardware/software interface on well-scoped technical questions.
• Deliver feature additions and bug fixes on current and prior chips.

What you'll need

• Experience writing and testing C++ code.
• Familiarity with low-level software, drivers, or Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) development.
• Understanding of hardware blocks such as PCIe, DDR / HBM memory, DMA, interrupt controllers, or system fabric.
• Ability to debug issues that span software and hardware interfaces.
