About the role
The Silicon Prototype Engineer is responsible for running specified tests on appropriate emulation builds, debugging issues, and reporting status for GPU designs.
What you'll do
- Run specified tests on emulation builds, debug issues, report status, and participate in system debug by capturing waveforms and writing triggers.
- Architect builds for emulation, bring up and support regular builds of emulation models, and debug build issues.
- Support software verification by interfacing emulation with virtual systems and simulation environments to assist silicon bring-up.
- Architect and implement transactors between software test benches and emulation hardware.
- Create automation infrastructure to execute emulation model builds and test regressions.
- Partner with pre-silicon verification teams, virtual system teams, and vendor field service and application engineers to address simulation and emulation hardware/software issues.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience writing synthesizable code in Verilog or SystemVerilog Hardware Description Language to implement hardware test bench features.
- Experience writing C and C++ code to implement performant software test bench features and execution infrastructure.
- Experience writing automation scripts in languages such as Python, Ruby, or Perl for simulation and emulation environments.
- Experience writing trigger logic in proprietary emulation tool languages to isolate failures during emulation regressions and capture signal waveforms.
- Experience using waveform viewers, test bench monitor/tracker logs, and EDA CAD tools for emulation, verification, and signal analysis in a Unix/Linux environment.
- Experience using revision control software, including GitLab, GitHub, and Perforce.

How we counted: 1317 open Design Verification (Design Verification) roles from 99 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 5 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Digital Design & Verification family row.
