Originally posted 3 November 2026 by the employer.
About the role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead requirements, architecture, integration, verification, and qualification for Veeco’s laser annealing platforms. This role spans the Laser Spike Annealing and Nanosecond Annealing product families, integrating mechanical, electrical, optical, software, thermal, gas-flow, and process technologies into production systems.
What you'll do
- Own system requirements and architecture for laser annealing products, translating customer and business needs into measurable subsystem and component specifications.
- Lead cross-functional integration of mechanical, electrical, optical, software, thermal, pneumatic, gas-flow, control, and process subsystems.
- Define verification and qualification strategies that demonstrate performance, reliability, safety, and readiness for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.
- Design and execute experimental test plans, analyze system and process signals, and convert results into design decisions and corrective actions.
- Resolve complex system issues through structured root-cause analysis, disciplined experimentation, and coordinated action across engineering teams.
- Evaluate concepts and technology trade-offs to recommend platform architecture choices supporting device requirements and product roadmaps.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, optical engineering, systems engineering, physics, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience; master’s degree with at least 6 years; or a doctorate with at least 3 years.
- Demonstrated experience defining requirements and leading system integration, verification, and performance qualification for complex equipment.
- Experience developing test plans and using experimental results to validate system-level performance.
- Deep working knowledge of one or more areas: laser systems, optical systems, electromechanical motion, thermal management, pneumatic or gas-flow control, control systems, or semiconductor metrology.
- Experience working across at least three engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, optical, software, controls, thermal, fluid, or process engineering.
- Proficiency in advanced data analysis for time-series signals, equipment telemetry, designed experiments, and system performance characterization.
