About the role
As a Senior Silicon Photonics Designer at nEye Systems, you will be responsible for the development process for complex photonic devices and systems-on-chip, from design through fabrication, testing, and analysis. The work focuses on MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) and chip-scale optical switch technology.
What you'll do
- Act as the Senior Engineer collaborating with internal teams to optimize chip design for product system-level requirements.
- Drive specific device designs and collaborate on fabrication methodologies.
- Design photonic components and photonic integrated circuits to support optical switch technology.
- Develop, oversee, and perform photonic component and system-level testing.
- Work cross-functionally with system and fabrication team members to develop optical switch capabilities.
What you'll need
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- 4-8+ years hands-on experience with silicon photonics in an industry setting.
- Strong understanding of microfabrication processes and related constraints on photonic component designs.
- Proficiency with photonic component simulation tools such as FDTD, EME, FEM, or FIT.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Experience with photonic integrated circuit layout and photonics foundry tape-out.
- Experience with designing and executing detailed photonic device experiments and characterization protocols.
