Senior Photonics System and High-Speed Modeling Engineer, Photonics

OpenLight Remote friendly (Goleta, California, United States; Santa Clara, United States) Full-time 2 hours ago
RF, Wireless & Photonics

$130,000 - $230,000 USD yearly

About the role

As a Photonic Systems and High-Speed Modeling Engineer, you will conduct lab-based testing and analysis of photonic components, integrated circuits (PICs), and systems, and lead projects with ecosystem partners and customers. The position focuses on optical, electrical, and high-speed system integration design, modeling, and testing across communications, lidar, quantum computing, and sensing applications.

What you'll do

  • Execute RF modeling of small and large-signal performance of high-speed components at RF frequencies when integrated onto PCBs and substrates with drivers and TIAs.
  • Perform optical system modeling of the effects of noise and nonlinearities on optical link performance.
  • Correlate simulation models with measured data from evaluation boards and systems integrating OpenLight PICs.
  • Characterize photonic system performance, generate and analyze test data, summarize findings, and communicate technical conclusions.
  • Engage directly with team members, ecosystem partners, and customers, including authoring customer-facing technical documentation.

What you'll need

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in the design, test, and debug of photonic and high-speed systems, particularly transceivers.
  • Experience with and understanding of high-speed photonic driver and TIA interfaces.
  • Proficiency with Keysight ADS, RF test and modeling, and small and large-signal modeling of high-speed communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with optical and high-speed test equipment, schematic reading, debugging, and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Strong Python (or similar) programming ability for test automation and data analysis.
  • Experience in the design and test of photonic modules, such as transceivers or Lidar modules.
