Lead inline metrology capabilities across XRD, SEM, and AFM tools for high-volume manufacturing.
About the role
This role leads an expansion of inline metrology capabilities at the Sherman, TX facility, supporting R&D and high-volume manufacturing. You will manage measurement recipes, tool qualifications, and process control across inline and offline metrology instruments.
What you'll do
- Develop, qualify, and maintain measurement recipes for inline and offline metrology tools covering thickness, roughness, composition, stress, and defect quantification. - Support metrology process control for materials moving through the production line, ensuring measurement accuracy, repeatability, and throughput. - Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, process excursions, and root causes, communicating findings to process engineering and operations teams. - Define, track, and report KPIs related to metrology capabilities, tool utilization, cycle time, and measurement uncertainty. - Perform tool qualifications, gauge R&R studies, and continuous improvement initiatives for measurement methodologies. - Interface with equipment vendors to maintain and service instruments, and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
What you'll need
- M.S. or Ph.D in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, typically with a minimum of 5 years of related experience. - Background in semiconductor metrology techniques including optical, X-ray, electron-beam, and bulk/surface analysis methods (such as XRD, SEM, AFM, and wafer level defect mapping and classification). - Experience setting up, optimizing, and maintaining measurement recipes on commercial metrology platforms. - Advanced data analysis skills in statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), and uncertainty analysis. - Proficiency with data analysis tools and programming environments such as Python, MATLAB, or JMP. - Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing flows and inline metrology integration.
Skills: semiconductor metrology, optical, X-ray, electron-beam, bulk/surface analysis, SPC, DOE

How we counted: 1052 open Process Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 56 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 26 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
