Apply DFT, Molecular Dynamics, and Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials (MLIP) to evaluate materials for semiconductor technology development.
Originally posted 30 October 2026 by the employer.
About the role
This role executes atomistic, molecular, and data modeling and simulation methods to evaluate material properties and support semiconductor technology development. The Modeling & Simulation team applies computational approaches, including DFT, Molecular Dynamics, and Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials (MLIP), to formulate new materials.
What you'll do
- Execute established atomistic, molecular, and data modeling and simulation methods to support material and technology development projects.
- Apply modeling approaches including DFT, DFTB, Molecular Dynamics, and data modeling to generate technical insights.
- Generate DFT training sets to support fine-tuning of Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials (MLIP) for Molecular Dynamics simulations.
- Support the evaluation and application of AI-based tools for material development.
- Analyze, document, and communicate modeling and simulation results to project team members and stakeholders.
- Follow established models, parameters, codes, procedures, and calculations to enable consistency across applications.
What you'll need
- M.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field focused on computational chemistry, molecular dynamics, or materials modeling.
- Working knowledge of atomistic, molecular, or data modeling and simulation using commercial or open-source software.
- Familiarity with Linux environments and tools such as LAMMPS, GROMACS, Quantum ESPRESSO, CP2K, VASP, xTB, or COSMO-RS/SAC.
- Exposure to or familiarity with AI/ML tools used in material development, such as ChemProp, MLIP, FM4M, AiZynthFinder, Transformers, message-passing approaches, or self-attention architectures.
- Working knowledge of Python or C/C++ (Python preferred) for computational modeling, data analysis, or AI/ML applications.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor processes and materials.
Nice to have
- Experience with molecular design, retrosynthesis, data modeling, or material informatics.
Skills: DFT, Molecular Dynamics, LAMMPS, VASP, computational modeling, Python

How we counted: 1093 open Process Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 56 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 30 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
