About the role
This intern co-op position involves participating in the development of RF front end modules at the design center in Newbury Park. Technical focus areas include simulation, validation, and characterization of RFIC LNA and RF switch designs across simulation and lab environments.
What you'll do
- Simulate and validate RFIC (LNA, RF switch, etc.) performance across supply, temperature, and frequency.
- Perform top- and block-level design and simulation, correlating lab measurements with simulation data.
- Create compliance matrices against specifications, plot results, and present results summaries.
- Tune RF front end modules in the lab and perform impedance matching using Smith charts.
- Evaluate RF parameters including IP3, P1dB, NF, and return loss.
- Analyze data to root cause performance issues and support IC tapeout changes.
What you'll need
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of at least one RF / Microwave Electronics course.
- Knowledge of semiconductor devices, analog circuit designs, RF and microwave engineering, wireless systems, and introductory electromagnetics.
- Understanding of basic IC building blocks (LNA, RF switches, mixer, bias ckt, bandgap, LDO, op-amp) and design parameters (gain, noise, non-linearity, s-parameters, stability).
- Familiarity with Cadence Spectre / RF simulation tools and the Cadence Virtuoso IC design environment.
- Experience presenting materials for design reviews and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Nice to have
- Experience with ADS or Momentum/HFSS EM simulation tools.
- Knowledgeable in the use of lab tools such as a Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, RF Generator, Power Meter, and Oscilloscope.
- Scripting experience in SKILL, python, or related languages.
- IC layout experience from coursework, school projects, or previous jobs.
- Familiarity with other RF circuits such as power amplifiers, antenna tuners, mixers, PCB design, or couplers.

How we counted: 266 open RF/Wireless Engineering (RF Frontend) roles from 36 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 8 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Analog & Mixed-Signal family row.
