About the role
This R&D Prototype Engineer role involves collaborating with engineers and technicians to develop, fabricate, and ship prototypes from advanced ceramic materials. The role also focuses on continuously improving existing materials processing methods and executing prototype manufacturing plans.
What you'll do
- Develop, fabricate, and ship prototypes with advanced composite materials.
- Provide design for manufacturability input for new products.
- Execute prototype manufacturing plans, including equipment programming tasks.
- Transfer new processes and methods to operations, including writing standard work and training manufacturing personnel.
- Participate in Lean, Six-sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, 6S, and yield enhancement activities.
- Document process and product improvements through experimentation.
What you'll need
- BS in Engineering or Science or AAS in Engineering or Science with relevant experience in materials processing, manufacturing, machining, lapping, CNC programming, or prototyping.
- Experience with engineering prototyping, equipment programming, equipment operation, assembly, and inspection.
- Ability to interface with outside entities including customers, tooling suppliers, equipment vendors, toll manufacturers, and test labs.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of advanced materials and processing (ceramics, metal matrix composites).
- Knowledge of lapping hard materials or optics.
- Knowledge of machining methods, including milling, turning, diamond grinding, EDM, laser.
- Experience with design software (CAD: ProE/Creo, SolidWorks; CAM: MasterCam, SurfCam, GibbsCam; CMM: PC-DIMS, Calyspo).
