About the role
The High Frequency Technology Center (HFTC) is seeking an R&D Process Engineer to develop, maintain, and optimize manufacturing processes to fabricate passive interposer substrates for Heterogeneous Integration technology. The position owns process development and process control to meet quality, yield, cycle time, and throughput metrics in wafer fabrication and advanced packaging.
What you'll do
- Own metrology tools and strategy for wafer fabrication and advanced packaging, including recipes, sampling plans, and SPC methodologies.
- Drive process control and stability using statistical tools (e.g., JMP) through SPC charting, daily reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Define process flows, develop new processes, and execute continuous process improvement (CPI) efforts to maximize product yield.
- Collaborate with process, integration, product, and circuit design engineers to define process and performance targets.
- Lead capital equipment acquisition projects encompassing tool evaluation, characterization, process development, and qualification.
- Enable data and tool capabilities by supporting tool qualification/matching, automation, data pipelines, and real-time process visibility.
What you'll need
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional, hands-on experience developing or maintaining semiconductor processes and equipment (recent graduates with extensive cleanroom and experimental background considered).
- Knowledge of metrology platforms such as CD-SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, scatterometry, film-thickness tools, 3D profile measurements, or automatic optical inspection.
- Understanding of measurement precision, accuracy, sensitivity, and gauge-capability principles.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
- Experience developing sampling strategies and optimizing measurement recipes.
Skills: Metrology tools, wafer fabrication, advanced packaging, ellipsometry, CDSEM, overlay, profilometry, X-ray fluorescence, particle inspection, automatic optical inspection

How we counted: 1091 open Process Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 56 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 29 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
