About the role
The Principal Power System Architect defines and owns complex power electronics system architectures (1 - 250 kW) for Infrastructure and Server/Datacenter applications. The role establishes the long-term technical vision, platform strategy, and system specifications for solutions spanning voltage regulators, power-supply controllers, gate drivers, and discrete power switches.
What you'll do
- Own and define complex power electronics system architectures (1 - 250 kW) meeting electrical performance, reliability, safety, scalability, and cost requirements.
- Break down complex power electronic systems into modular, scalable, and reusable subsystems for communications and datacenter infrastructure.
- Lead system-level trade-off studies balancing power density, efficiency, Bill of Materials (BOM), reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Guide modelling and simulation of power electronics systems using MATLAB Simulink and circuit simulation environments.
- Provide technical leadership for Proof-of-Concept and reference-design programs from architecture and schematics through system validation and customer enablement.
- Shape solution and IC roadmaps across power-supply controllers, voltage regulators, gate drivers, and discrete power switches.
What you'll need
- MSEE with 12+ years of experience in power-system and power-electronics architecture, design, and development across the 1 - 250 kW range.
- Expert knowledge of power-conversion topologies, including AC-DC, inverter, isolated DC-DC converters, LDO, and switch-mode topologies such as buck, boost, and buck-boost.
- Deep expertise in magnetics, control theory, thermal design, protection, and discrete power devices including MOSFET, IGBT, GaN, and SiC.
- Advanced proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB Simulink, SIMetrix/Simplis, and SPICE.
- Demonstrated experience in power-supply architectures for communication infrastructure, datacenters, traditional servers, and AI servers.
- Hands-on technical knowledge of schematic design, PCB layout, thermal management, safety, and EMC/EMI mitigation for high-power (1 - 250 kW) systems.
Nice to have
- PhD in Electrical Engineering.
- Direct technical engagement experience with hyperscale customers or platform partners.
- Evidence of technical contributions such as patents, publications, standards participation, or conference contributions.

How we counted: 52 open Power Electronics (Power Conversion) roles from 21 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 4 Nov 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Analog & Mixed-Signal family row.
