About the role
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Server, GPU) in the Data Center Platform Engineering Group, you will drive the mechanical design for AMD's server and GPU platforms. You will shape the physical design of high-power platforms, ensuring robust and manufacturable solutions.
What you'll do
- Lead the mechanical design and architecture for server and GPU platforms. - Develop detailed mechanical designs and prototypes, validating them through simulation, analysis, and physical testing. - Collaborate with system architecture, board, validation, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive product development and system reliability. - Represent AMD in technical reviews, customer engagements, and industry forums. - Provide consultative direction to senior leadership on mechanical strategy and design trade-offs. - Mentor engineers and make critical decisions impacting multiple product families and go-to-market readiness.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. - Professional experience in mechanical or product design at the principal level, including server hardware, GPU systems, or high-performance computing environments. - Expertise in mechanical design for server and rack solutions. - Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, including advanced modeling and assembly management skills. - Understanding of DFM principles, mechanical materials, and manufacturing processes including sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, and extrusion. - Experience with cross-functional collaboration across electrical, thermal, and validation teams.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. - Exposure to optics and laser design.
