About the role
This role involves fabricating precision optics by operating polishing and generating machines to process various optical materials.
What you'll do
- Run multiple polishing and generating machines to process optical materials (e.g., fused silica, CaF2).
- Read routers and engineering drawings to understand part specifications and manufacturing processes.
- Test optical parts using interferometers, calipers, micrometers, and other test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and adjust equipment to achieve passing parts.
- Perform surface quality inspections to ensure parts are free of digs and scratches.
- Perform maintenance on machines to keep them running at peak efficiency.
What you'll need
- Completion of high school, vocational training, or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and literacy.
Nice to have
- Related experience in sizing, grinding, or polishing of optical materials using conventional and/or CNC methods.
