Intern, Semiconductor Laser Modeling and Characterization

Develop laser models and perform optoelectronic device characterization for integrated semiconductor lasers across various material platforms.
About the role
This internship focuses on the modeling and characterization of integrated semiconductor lasers. You will develop laser models and test lasers across different material platforms to extract key parameters for integrated laser systems.
What you'll do
- Develop laser models to understand and optimize the performance limits of laser design configurations integrated onto different material platforms.
- Test integrated semiconductor lasers and analyze measurements to extract key parameters.
- Utilize measurement data and models to help guide design improvements for integrated laser systems.
- Execute modeling and optoelectronic characterization projects tailored to your research background.
What you'll need
- Active enrollment in a PhD degree program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics/Photonics, Applied Physics, or equivalent.
- Strong programming skills in Python with the scientific stack (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib).
- Familiarity with semiconductor laser physics.
- Experience with optoelectronic device characterization, including LIV and optical spectra measurements.
- Ability to work on-site at the San Jose, CA office.
