About the role
You will investigate the root causes of failures in optical and photonic products to support continuous improvement and product quality standards.
What you'll do
- Perform detailed failure analysis on optical components, modules, and systems using optical microscopy, SEM, EDS, FIB, and other analytical tools. - Develop and implement failure analysis methodologies and techniques to address product complexities and failure mechanisms. - Document failure analysis findings through reports, images, and data, and present results to cross-functional teams. - Collaborate with design, process, manufacturing, and reliability engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. - Support new product introduction (NPI) by providing early failure analysis insights and contributing to design for reliability. - Analyze field returns and customer complaints to identify failure trends, while maintaining and calibrating failure analysis equipment.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field. - Experience in failure analysis, preferably within the optical, semiconductor, or electronics industry. - Hands-on experience with failure analysis techniques, including optical microscopy, SEM/EDS, FIB, X-ray inspection, and cross-sectioning. - Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, optical designs, and material specifications. - Methodical approach to root cause identification and clear technical communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with statistical data analysis and failure analysis software. - Familiarity with optical communication components and systems.
