About the role
The Director, Cluster Forward Deployment Engineering leads AMD customer-embedded engineering engagements across strategic customers, cloud service provider, hyperscale, and AI infrastructure accounts. In this role, you will build and direct a team of Forward Deployed Engineers who deploy, integrate, optimize, and scale AMD datacenter GPU platforms and software solutions.
What you'll do
- Build and develop a globally distributed team of Forward Deployed Engineers supporting strategic, cloud service provider, hyperscale, and AI infrastructure accounts. - Own the technical engagement strategy for assigned Mega Data Center and Cloud Service Provider accounts, guiding deployments from proof-of-concept through cluster bring-up, workload enablement, and production readiness. - Serve as the senior technical escalation lead to resolve cross-stack issues spanning GPU hardware, firmware, ROCm software, AI frameworks, networking, storage, and cluster orchestration. - Partner with Product Management, Business Development, Pre-sales, Operations, and Support teams to manage technical risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans. - Translate customer deployment friction, feature gaps, and workload requirements into actionable product feedback and roadmap priorities. - Develop reusable deployment patterns, reference architectures, automation playbooks, and readiness criteria to scale execution consistency across accounts.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - Documented experience in engineering leadership, software engineering, solutions architecture, customer engineering, or forward deployed engineering roles. - Deep technical understanding of GPU-based computing, distributed systems, AI software stacks, and production infrastructure. - Experience managing customer-embedded engineering engagements and leading cross-stack technical issue resolution.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - Experience working directly with MDC providers, cloud service providers, hyperscalers, AI infrastructure companies, OEMs, and ODMs. - Technical background covering large-scale GPU deployments, AI training and inference environments, server architecture, networking, storage, Linux, Kubernetes, and containers. - Experience translating customer deployment insights into reusable solutions and product roadmap recommendations.
