About the role
Qualcomm's Data Center AI Architecture team defines cloud AI system-on-chip (SoC) architectures and complete data center systems tailored for generative AI inference workloads. The position focuses on shaping architectures for AI accelerators, memory subsystems, and platform scalability.
What you'll do
- Partner across architecture, design, systems, product, software, and platform teams to establish system specifications.
- Translate product and workload requirements into SoC feature sets for technology, IP, platform, and software teams.
- Execute SoC and system architecture studies, quantifying performance, power, area, cost, memory bandwidth, network topology, and scalability tradeoffs.
- Correlate observed system performance with analytical models and simulators, isolate hardware and software bottlenecks, and drive performance closure through production.
- Perform competitive analysis across SoC, platform, compute, memory, data center networking, and software deployments.
- Support and mentor technical contributors while developing technical innovations and patents.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience in SoC, platform, or system architecture, AI accelerators, memory architecture, or memory technologies.
- Computer and system architecture background covering processors, accelerators, memory systems, data center network fabrics, interconnects, or hardware/software interfaces.
- Experience executing quantitative SoC, system, and competitive studies using high-level calculators, spreadsheets, analytical models, profilers, or simulators.
- Experience developing architecture methodologies, tools, and analysis frameworks to drive recommendations.
- Hands-on programming ability with languages such as C, C++, or Python for architecture modeling and automation.
Nice to have
- Understanding of generative AI and machine learning workloads, including Large Language Model inference bottlenecks.
- Experience in processor or accelerator architecture, ISA design, microarchitecture, performance modeling, scale-up or scale-out networks, or hardware/software co-design.
- Knowledge of DRAM and memory-controller architecture, bandwidth, latency, power tradeoffs, and protocols such as LPDDR, HBM, DDR, or GDDR, plus processing-in-memory or 3D integration.
- Familiarity with data center SoC technologies including RAS, ECC, Ethernet, InfiniBand, RDMA, network interface controllers, switches, congestion control, chiplets, PHYs, advanced packaging, or platform management.
