Responsible for validating the throughput, latency, RF performance, and power efficiency of Wi-Fi products.
About the role
The WLAN Performance Test Engineer is responsible for validating the throughput, latency, RF performance of Wi-Fi products and power efficiency under various real-world and lab conditions. The role ensures compliance with IEEE 802.11 standards and identifies performance bottlenecks at PHY/MAC layers.
What you'll do
- Conduct throughput testing using iPerf, IxChariot, octoScope, Spirent, or IXIA.
- Perform RF validation including RvR, RSSI, SNR, and Adjacent channel interference.
- Validate performance under high client density scenarios and concurrent traffic (VoIP, video streaming, web traffic).
- Test performance under co-channel and adjacent channel interference in 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands.
- Develop automation scripts using C Sharp and Python for log collection, KPI extraction, and triaging.
- Analyze packet captures (Wireshark) and interpret logs from AP, STA, and driver layers for debug and root cause analysis.
- Mentor engineers, review test strategy/design, and support customer escalations with in-depth performance analysis.
What you'll need
- 10-15 years of experience in WLAN System or performance validation.
- Strong understanding of IEEE 802.11 standards (a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be), OFDM, MIMO, MU-MIMO, QoS (WMM).
- Experience with IXIA / Spirent / Keysight test equipment, iPerf, Wireshark.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP stack and experience in Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
- Expertise in log analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump).
- Automation framework development experience.

How we counted: 265 open RF/Wireless Engineering (RF Frontend) roles from 34 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 5 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Analog & Mixed-Signal family row.
