Direct daily III-V cleanroom operations for InP Buried Heterostructure (BH) DFB lasers and BH Gain Chips across etch, lithography, PECVD, and metallization.
About the role
The Wafer Fab Supervisor leads a team of process technicians and operators responsible for daily wafer fabrication operations across InP photonic device lines, specifically InP Buried Heterostructure (BH) DFB lasers and BH Gain Chips. The role oversees cleanroom operations across photolithography, PECVD, dry etch, wet etch, and metallization, including Mesa etch and MOCVD epitaxial regrowth support steps.
What you'll do
- Plan and direct daily wafer fab operations across photolithography, PECVD, dry etch, wet etch, and metallization to meet wafer-out, throughput, and cycle-time targets. - Set lot priorities, sequence hot lots and engineering wafers with Production Planning, and coordinate tool downtime and preventive maintenance with Equipment Engineering. - Lead, schedule, and assign work to technicians and operators while managing shift handoffs, attendance, performance reviews, and cross-training programs. - Enforce Process-of-Record (POR) discipline, review SPC charts and out-of-control events, and partner with Process Engineering on root-cause investigations for process excursions. - Oversee cleanroom supplies, consumables, and chemical and gas inventory while enforcing EHS standards, equipment lockout/tagout, and safe handling of chemicals, gases, and precious metals. - Support DOEs, process qualifications, and NPI runs by scheduling resources and coordinating tool and wafer lot availability.
What you'll need
- 8 - 12 years of experience in semiconductor or photonics wafer processing, with direct III-V/InP process experience. - 2 - 3 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or team leadership role within a wafer fab or high-volume manufacturing environment. - Hands-on production experience across photolithography, PECVD, dry etch, wet etch, and metallization modules. - Working knowledge of SPC, root-cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methods. - Proficiency with MES or lot tracking systems and standard office software. - Experience enforcing cleanroom, chemical, and process gas safety requirements.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related technical field (associate degree with equivalent experience considered).

How we counted: 3892 open Semiconductor Equipment Engineering (Manufacturing Equipment) roles from 83 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 23 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
