DFB laser and gain chip wafer fabrication using holographic lithography, AFM, and InP processing modules.
About the role
The Senior InP Wafer Fab Technician executes and maintains wafer fabrication processes for InP-based photonic devices, including DFB lasers and gain chips. The role supports holographic grating fabrication, metallization, and etching modules in a compound semiconductor cleanroom environment.
What you'll do
- Perform grating fabrication for DFB laser structures using holographic lithography methods, aligning exposure systems, and characterizing pitch, depth, and uniformity using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). - Operate metal deposition tools, including e-beam evaporation systems, to deposit metal stacks for p-contacts, n-contacts, and device interconnects, followed by metal lift-off processes. - Perform wet chemical etching and operate dry etch systems (RIE or ICP) for pattern transfer and device definition on InP and III-V semiconductor materials. - Support photolithography processes such as resist coating, mask alignment, exposure, and development, and operate Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for feature inspection. - Own assigned process modules within the wafer fabrication line, monitoring tool performance, assisting with preventive maintenance, and maintaining documentation.
What you'll need
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in InP wafer fabrication processing. - Direct experience with DFB laser and gain chip wafer fabrication in a compound semiconductor manufacturing environment. - Hands-on experience with DFB grating fabrication using holographic lithography techniques. - Proficiency in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for grating and surface characterization. - Experience with e-beam evaporation, metallization lift-off processes, wet chemical etching, and plasma dry etching (RIE or ICP) of InP materials. - Demonstrated cleanroom troubleshooting skills across multiple wafer fab process modules.
Skills: DFB Grating Fabrication, holographic lithography, Atomic Force Microscopy, AFM, InP semiconductor, metal deposition, wet chemical etching, RIE, ICP

How we counted: 29 open Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (Semiconductor Process) roles from 17 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 26 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Process, Fab & Equipment family row.
