About the role

Microchip Technology is seeking a Technical Staff Engineer-Applications (Software/Firmware) in Houston, TX, to provide technical customer support for Datacenter and Server products. You will work across product development, validation, marketing, and sales teams to support design wins, initial system bring-up, and production ramp.

What you'll do

- Support SAS/SATA Protocol and RAID controller embedded firmware, OS drivers, and management software. - Support PCIe, security, and encryption technologies. - Work closely with Tier 1 OEMs and ODMs to define requirements, manage deliverables, and support system bring-up through full production. - Root cause and document customer issues independently or by leading cross-functional teams. - Develop and review customer-facing documentation, including user guides, release notes, technical product training, and application notes. - Travel within North America and internationally to debug firmware and software at customer sites.

What you'll need

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 12.5+ years of relevant industry experience. - Extensive understanding of SAS/SATA, SCSI, PCIe, RAID, CXL, NVMe, and other storage related technologies. - Strong software/firmware development and debug skills, including experience debugging Linux/Windows Operating System drivers and applications. - Highly structured programming skills in C, C++, and TCL/TK or other scripting languages. - Experience with bench top equipment such as protocol analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, and other storage or networking related test equipment. - Customer-facing experience and presentation skills supporting Tier 1 customers and field application engineers.

Nice to have

- Experience with RISC, MIPS, or ARM based embedded processors. - Experience in SW/FW development with lightweight embedded kernels such as ThreadX, VxWorks, or eCos. - Strong debugging skills and experience with kernel debuggers (Windbg), EJTAG, serial ports, or Greenhills Debugger. - Experience with storage management (MCTP, BMC), server BIOS functionality, and device drivers. - Experience with storage accelerators or high-speed test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DCAJ, and BERT.
