About the role
The Staff Engineer, Failure Analysis Engineering analyzes failure root causes across RMA returns, new product introductions, and yield excursions.
What you'll do
- Analyze failure root cause of RMA returns and investigate causes of new product failures. - Determine the root cause of yield excursions and propose corrective actions with Design, Application, Process, Product, and Package engineering teams. - Write technical reports detailing failure analysis findings and distribute them to engineering stakeholders. - Maintain ADI failure analysis cycle time and quality commitments while developing new analytical techniques. - Take ownership of designated failure analysis equipment to ensure operational uptime. - Mentor junior engineers within the failure analysis group.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Science with semiconductor emphasis plus 7 years of experience, or Master's degree plus 5 years of experience. - Experience in Failure Analysis, Product, Design, Application, Fab Process, or Test Engineering. - Understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuit analysis, diode and transistor device physics, and the ability to read schematics and layout. - Hands-on experience with failure analysis tools: optical microscopy, X-ray, EMMI, OBIRCH, ELITE, and microprobing. - Experience utilizing electrical bench equipment, including curve tracers, voltage sources, current loads, oscilloscopes, source meters, and function generators. - Understanding of FIB operation, parallel lapping, chemical deprocessing, and physical failure analysis techniques.
Nice to have
- Fab and/or assembly process experience. - Chemistry lab experience.
