About the role
This role involves hardware system design and supporting test hardware, specifically within power electronics.
What you'll do
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of complex power electronics hardware, including power converters, MCUs, sensors, analogue components, and electromechanical parts.
- Translate high-level system requirements into detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and bill-of-material (BOM) selection for proof-of-concept execution.
- Apply advanced understanding of power conversion topologies, magnetics, control theory, and power devices to optimize designs.
- Perform board-level thermal, signal/power integrity, EMC/EMI simulations.
- Evaluate, troubleshoot, and debug hardware prototypes, identifying root causes of failures and implementing corrective actions.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, and release/sustain system board designs on the Altium platform.
What you'll need
- 7+ years experience in hardware system design and physical prototype validation in power electronics.
- Experience in system level and sub-system integration and debug.
- Sound knowledge of power conversion topologies, magnetics, control theory, and power devices.
- In-depth knowledge of PCB layout techniques in power electronics, and mitigation of problems in high-power and multi-domain environments.
- Proficient with simulations and CAD tools (MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, SIMPLIS).
- Proficient with PCB design and simulation tools (Altium, Ansys).
- Experience in taking system designs from concept to proof of concept.
- Good understanding of power electronics components (silicon-based IGBTs, MOSFETs, Wide Bandgap technologies) and their driving.
- Thermal design experience (loss calculations, simulations, cooling unit specifications).
- Understanding of EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of electrical machines and motor drive.
- Knowledge and understanding of medium power (up to several hundreds of kW) and medium voltage (up to >1kV) and related safety issues in testing a prototype in high voltage environment.
