Define 1 - 250 kW power electronics system architectures for infrastructure and datacenter applications using MATLAB Simulink, GaN, and SiC technologies.
About the role
This role defines complex power electronics system architectures (1 - 250 kW) meeting electrical performance, reliability, and cost requirements for infrastructure and datacenter applications.
What you'll do
- Define complex power electronics system architectures (1 - 250 kW) and break down systems into modular, scalable sub-systems for communications and datacenter infrastructures.
- Perform trade-off studies balancing power density, system size, cost, and electrical performance to establish detailed system specifications.
- Model and simulate power electronics systems using MATLAB Simulink and related simulation platforms.
- Lead the development of proof-of-concept boards from schematic implementation through system validation stages.
- Select Renesas power products, including voltage regulators, power supply controllers, gate-drivers, and discrete power switches, to meet target requirements and resolve customer technical issues.
- Monitor market trends to contribute to solutions and IC design roadmaps for datacenter and infrastructure power supply systems.
What you'll need
- MSEE with 14+ years of relevant experience in power systems (1 - 250 kW) design and development.
- Proven track record of leading complex power electronics system design and physical prototype validation.
- In-depth knowledge of power conversion topologies, including AC-DC, Inverter, Isolated DC-DC converters, LDO, and switching mode power supplies such as Buck, Boost, and Buck-Boost DC-DC converters.
- Solid understanding of magnetics, control theory, and discrete power devices such as MOSFET, IGBT, GaN, and SiC.
- Proficiency with power electronics simulation tools, including MATLAB Simulink, SIMetrix/Simplis, or SPICE.
- Demonstrated experience conducting feasibility studies evaluating electrical performance, bill of materials (BOM), and cost across diverse power converter designs.
Nice to have
- PhD in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in power supply architecture for communication infrastructure, datacenter, traditional, and AI server applications.
- Hands-on experience in schematic design and PCB layout for high power applications (1 - 250 kW), including PCB layout techniques to minimize EMC/EMI.
- Experience designing and developing power electronics systems utilizing wide-bandgap (WBG) devices such as GaN and SiC.
