About the role
As a Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineer - Security at Ambiq Micro, you will provide technical and team leadership in extending and supporting Ambiq's Secure Bootrom/Bootloader and SDK for the Apollo SoC and emulation platforms. You will work within the global MCU software development team alongside architecture and local MCU SoC design teams focusing on MCU software development, testing, and security aspects from concept through release.
What you'll do
- Lead technical planning, work assignments, and implementation for new products and security features within the MCU software team. - Define and implement new security features from design to production in collaboration with Design, Architecture, Verification, and Applications teams. - Participate in pre-silicon testing and verification via FPGA emulation, post-silicon bring-up, and hardware/software debugging focused on Secure Bootrom and Bootloader features. - Integrate and test runtime cryptographic operations utilizing embedded hardware accelerators. - Collaborate with SQA and System Test teams to define and implement test cases for security deliverables to ensure full coverage. - Implement hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and board support package (BSP) components for the SDK.
What you'll need
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 8+ years of experience in embedded projects utilizing both bare metal and RTOS systems or real-time environments. - Strong knowledge of ARM architectures, RTOS, and low-level drivers such as I2C, SPI, and UART. - Hands-on experience with Secure Boot, PKI, encryption (AES, RSA, ECC), and embedded security concepts including TrustZone and CryptoCell. - Expert-level proficiency in C, with C++ and object-oriented extensions, along with strong proficiency in Python. - Experience with debuggers (JTAG, Saleae), Git, scripting languages (Python, Bash), and gcc/Arm compilers with MCU IDEs from ARM, Keil, IAR, or Eclipse. - Experience with technical leadership, HW/SW debug on FPGA and silicon, and CI/CD development with automated testing principles.
