About the role
The Sr. Principal Module Design Engineer is responsible for the design of high speed optical transceiver modules using advanced Optical Engine products, driving development from concept to production. The scope includes co-design and integration across Silicon Photonics (PIC), electronic ICs (such as TIAs, drivers, and micro-controllers), substrate, optical connectors, and packaging to meet mechanical, thermal, and electrical requirements.
What you'll do
- Design and develop fiber optic transceivers, CPO, and NPO Optical Engines from initial concept through production. - Develop Silicon Photonic (PIC), electronics IC (including TIA, driver, and micro-controller), substrate, optical connector, and packaging co-design to achieve required mechanical and thermal performance. - Execute analysis, modeling, simulation, and laboratory measurement of optical and electrical performance. - Resolve all DFMs with process/production engineering and component suppliers, and conduct module design reviews across Architectural, EVT, and DVT phases. - Create drawings, BOMs, and ECOs to document designs while collaborating with program management and suppliers for engineering and pilot builds. - Work closely with firmware, optical, mechanical, and process engineering teams to address RF, power, noise, control, thermal, and EMI challenges.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of related experience in optical transceiver electrical design, a Master’s degree with 5 years, or a PhD with 3 years of experience. - Strong analog circuit design skills and understanding of circuit theory, linear system theory, feedback, ICs, and high-speed signal fundamentals. - Proven laboratory measurement skills. - Experience with board level design cycles. - Experience with electronics CAD tools and electronic system modelling.
Nice to have
- Expertise in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS. - Understanding of microprocessors and real time control firmware. - Familiarity with fiber optic transceivers and CPO/NPO modules.
