About the role
This role involves leading GaN product engineering and new product development programs from concept through formal product release using the APQP framework.
What you'll do
- Own execution of assigned GaN product engineering and new product development programs.
- Develop and maintain detailed program plans including scope, milestones, deliverables, and qualification gates.
- Lead product engineering activities supporting NPI from development through production release, including electrical characterization, parametric analysis, and yield monitoring.
- Perform and guide characterization of GaN power devices, including breakdown voltage, leakage, and dynamic RDS(on).
- Drive definition of CP, FT, QC, characterization with technology and test engineering.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to product engineering and NPI engineers.
What you'll need
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Physics, Power Electronics, or related field; BS with significant relevant power semiconductor experience may be considered.
- 8+ years of semiconductor industry experience including product engineering, NPI, qualification, production ramp, or sustaining of power semiconductor devices.
- Hands-on experience with GaN power devices, GaN HEMTs, or related wide bandgap semiconductor technologies.
- Strong understanding of power semiconductor device physics, switching behavior, reliability mechanisms, and manufacturing sensitivities.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with electrical characterization of power devices, including high-voltage parametric testing, dynamic RDS(on), double-pulse testing, and switching loss measurement.
- Experience supporting product qualification, reliability data review, datasheet validation, test limit development, and formal product release readiness.
- Working knowledge of APQP, semiconductor NPI processes, wafer probe, final test, quality control, failure analysis, yield management, and risk-based decision making.
- Strong technical execution, program management, data-driven problem-solving, cross-functional communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
Nice to have
- Experience productizing high-voltage GaN HEMTs.
- Experience interfacing with wafer fabrication, OSAT, backend manufacturing, test, reliability, applications, and customer-facing technical teams.
- Familiarity with application-level validation, gate-drive optimization, switching characterization platforms, and power converter operating conditions.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring product engineering, NPI, characterization, qualification, or sustaining engineering teams.

How we counted: 37 open Product Engineering (Power Management) roles from 14 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 16 Sept 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Silicon Validation & Test family row.
