Architect optical test and validation solutions spanning silicon photonics, co-packaged optics (CPO), and 1.6T transceivers.
About the role
The Solutions Engineer – Optical Solutions is a customer-facing role responsible for designing and delivering optical test and validation solutions for AI data center operators, optical module vendors, and hyperscalers. The role focuses on architecting end-to-end test platforms for 400G, 800G, and 1.6T transceivers, silicon photonics, and co-packaged optics.
What you'll do
- Partner with AI data centers, hyperscalers, optical module vendors, and silicon photonics companies to develop customized optical test and validation solutions. - Architect end-to-end optical test solutions covering component characterization, module validation for 400G, 800G, and 1.6T transceivers, and system-level interoperability across SerDes and host interfaces. - Design and integrate test solutions using optical modulation analyzers, BERTs, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, automation software, tunable lasers, and power meters. - Lead technical discovery with customer engineering teams to qualify technical opportunities and define optimal architectures for deployment and validation. - Collaborate with product management, R&D, and Keysight's Optical Center of Excellence to translate customer requirements into scalable solutions and support portfolio expansion.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. - Typically 8+ years of industry experience developing, testing, or supporting optical communications technologies. - Deep technical expertise in silicon photonics, co-packaged optics (CPO), high-speed interconnects (112G, 224G, 448G PAM4), or optical transceiver architectures (400G, 800G, 1.6T). - Working knowledge of industry standards including IEEE 802.3, OIF-CEI, and emerging AI interconnect standards. - Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement instrumentation, including optical modulation analyzers, Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs), high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, network analyzers, tunable lasers, and optical power meters. - Willingness to travel typically 10–25% (up to approximately 50% for remote candidates).
Nice to have
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. - Experience supporting AI data center operators, hyperscalers, optical module vendors, or silicon photonics companies. - Experience developing customized optical test solutions for customer-specific applications. - Familiarity with Keysight optical solutions or comparable optical test and measurement platforms. - Active participation in industry standards organizations or technical conferences such as IEEE, OIF, or OFC.

How we counted: 992 open Hardware Systems Engineering (AI ML Hardware) roles from 104 employers tracked in the SemiconductorJobs index, counted 21 Oct 2026. Specialty figures count only roles carrying this exact specialty label, so an employer's related work in neighbouring specialties is not included there — it is counted in the wider Software, Firmware & Systems family row.
