Architect low-power Edge AI MCUs using ARM Cortex-M processors, asymmetric multicore frameworks, and RTOS.
About the role
The Software Architect defines the software architecture and requirements for Ambiq's family of low-power Edge AI MCUs, partnering with SoC hardware architects, product marketing, and IP vendors. The scope covers multi-processor communications, data movement acceleration, virtual memory management, dynamic resource allocation, power optimization, and debug tools.
What you'll do
- Analyze requirements from SoC hardware architecture, product marketing, and software teams, conducting software prototyping to author software requirements specifications. - Partner with field, product marketing, and system test teams to map Alpha customer use cases into software requirements and testability strategies. - Serve as subject matter expert during implementation and test phases, reviewing designs, test plans, code, and test case results across the SoC software architecture. - Support performance and power optimization across assigned functional domains, defining architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices. - Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, advising on implementation trade-offs between software and hardware. - Mentor and guide junior engineering team members across cross-functional groups.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. - 12+ years of experience developing embedded software for real-time environments across bare-metal and RTOS platforms. - Hands-on code development in C/C++ and assembly language for embedded targets using ARM Cortex-M processors. - Experience writing software requirements specifications targeted for FPGA-based emulation platforms and full system reference designs. - Experience with asymmetric multicore systems and control/data plane interaction, including inter-processor communication via remote processor messaging frameworks such as OpenAMP or RPMsg. - Experience with general-purpose data movement engines, memory management units, memory protection, L1/L2 caches, shared memories, and dual-port memories. - Familiarity with MCU IDEs on Windows such as ARM/Keil, IAR, or Eclipse.
Nice to have
- Experience in power optimization for embedded systems, including voltage and frequency scaling, clock gating, sleep/wake cycles, and low-power modes of processors and peripherals. - Familiarity with TrustZone for M-Class microcontrollers or Trusted Firmware for microcontrollers. - Experience with graphics, display, and audio/video processing in embedded systems.
